The Maxvorstadt, Munich`s fi rst urban expansion set out on a 200 meter grid, served as a tableau for urban ideologies ranging from Isar Athens to the Hauptstadt der Bewegung in the past. As a host to the Kunstareal today, its decentralized qualities and detachment from the historical city by large scale infrastructures pose a challenge.
